In an election that produced a nail-biter finish between former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum, here’s what we can say about Tuesday night’s Iowa caucus participants, based on interviews conducted with a sample of them as they entered their precinct caucuses.
One caveat: caucus goers could have changed their minds once they got inside their precinct caucus and heard pitches from candidates or their surrogates, but this sample is the best evidence we have of why voters made the choices they made on Tuesday night.
Ideologically, nearly half of the caucus goers called themselves “very conservative” and Santorum was the leader among those voters, winning one more than one out of three of them. Santorum also did best among those Iowa caucus goers who said that the most important issue was abortion.
Older people tended to vote for Romney; the young voted for the oldest candidate in the field, 76-year old Texas congressman Ron Paul. The wealthy favored Romney, while the less affluent tended to back Paul.
The people who above all were looking for a candidate whom they thought could beat President Barack Obama in November opted for Romney, indeed he did better among them than among any other category of voters in the poll. But the ideological purists who said what mattered most in selecting their candidate was finding the “true conservative” backed either Paul (37 percent) or Santorum (36 percent). Romney won only 1 percent of such ideological purist voters.
Religious identification was an important factor in Tuesday night’s outcome, but evangelical or born-again Christians – who accounted for nearly three out of five caucus attendees – did not consolidate behind one candidate.
Instead, they scattered their votes, with 32 percent supporting Santorum and 18 percent Paul – while smaller percentages favored former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (14 percent), Romney (14 percent), Texas Gov. Rick Perry (14 percent), and Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota (6 percent).
But Romney dominated among the 43 percent of caucus goers who said they weren’t evangelical Christians: he won nearly 40 percent of them, with Paul taking 26 percent.
Not surprisingly the Texas congressman and 1988 Libertarian presidential candidate did quite well among self-described independents who accounted for 23 percent of Tuesday night’s caucus participants – winning 43 percent of such voters.
Paul was also the strongest contender among first time caucus goers who accounted for about four out of ten attendees. He won about a third of their votes.
Entrance poll interviews revealed that 15 percent of caucus goers were voters age 17 to 29, and 48 percent of them opted for Paul.
But more significantly, more than one quarter of caucus attendees were age 65 and over and Romney was the winner among that group, winning three out of ten of them.
Romney and Santorum split the votes of the middle-aged voters, those between 50 and 64, with Romney winning 26 percent of them, and Santorum getting 27 percent.
Paul had strong appeal among lower-income people. A plurality of caucus attendees who described themselves as earning less than $50,000 a year backed Paul -- he won 31 percent of those voters.
But two thirds of Tuesday night’s caucus goers said they made more than $50,000 and Romney and Santorum split the votes of that group, Romney got 28 percent and Santorum got 27 percent of them.
Romney did better among those who said they made more than $100,000 a year wining 36 percent of such voters.
Caucus attendees interviewed as they entered their precincts were given an array of four issues to choose as the most important to them: abortion, the federal budget deficit, the economy, and health care. A plurality of voters chose the economy as the most important issue, and of that group, one out of three Romney.
Fifty-one percent of the caucus goers said working in business was a better preparation for serving as president of the United States than working in government, and of that group 36 percent said they’d vote for Romney, who served one term as governor of Massachusetts, but spent much for his adult life in businesses such as Bain Capital.

I make good money and Paul still has my vote hahaha.
You want something different then try the original constitution as it stands..
Less government intervention the better for country and business.
Government has been bought off and paid for on each side so many times that it has come to a grind...
And the current leader of the pack is just as bad if not worse then any other.
So Paul still wins my vote going in..
This vote was so close, you could almost theoretically balance the results on the head of a pin. Which is just one more good reason to remember this as the great Republican pin head race of 2012.
That vote was more rigged than a Russian election. Welcome to the U.S.S.A.!
AND IN THE END . . . .Still no clear choice. Hard to choose which clown has the best face paint. I hope Bachman stays in. It's so much fun watching her make a further idiot of herself.
Gotta say, Paul does distinguish himself from the clowns. He's the only one not sucking hind teet for the rightwing wacko vote. Yet, Congress would never go along with his agenda. Thus, he's a dead stick.
Goodbye Obama
And we're going to New Hampshire, then South Carolina, then Virginia, Vermont, New York, Califronia, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, BYYYYYAAAAAA!!!
As far as I can tell, for every great Ron Paul idea he feels compelled to pair it with a complete quacker of an idea - and those ducks won't fly with the American people. I find it very interesting that his strongest support group is the youngest demographic - i.e. the most idealistic and many of his positions are exactly that: idealistic. They assume both a perfect society of reasonable people and businesses operated fairly. Society isn't fair and a significant number of companies are nor operated by people who care about much other than getting ahead.
Or to put it another way - I'd love to live in Ron Paul's world and if I did I'd vote for him. Unfortunately, none of us live in his world and naevity isn't going to solve our problems.
Lower income people generally are less well educated. Not only do they vote for the Isolationist policies Dr. Paul espouses which have led the USA into WWI and WWII previously, but it further explains why Democrats vote in droves for the platitudes of Obama who promises wealth redistribution. People are focused on only their pet issue, ignorant of ALL issues and the interrelations of all things. We live in a world best described as a bag of Jello. Push in over here and the Jello shifts and comes out over there. Making all changes in a static system fails to account for the dynamics of the real world.
Dr. Paul cannot ignore Iran. To do so invites Armageddon at the worlds expense. I was discussing with a friend Dr. Paul's chances in Iowa as he was about to caucus last night. He told me he was considering Dr. Paul and wanted my advice. I told him that Dr. Paul is right on many issues (for which he agreed), but on the issues on which he is wrong, Dr. Paul is unacceptable - specifically foreign policy (for which he also agreed.)
So you are saying the USA should continue to bail out the rest of the world as we have done since World War 1?
The article isn't clear on low income earners. My hunch is that many of the low income earners who support Ron Paul are students. He spent a lot of time at the Iowa universities and had a huge turnout.
What country on earth has less government intervention and does better economically and socially than the U.S.?
WWI started in 1914. We didn't get involved in WWI until April of 1917 after unrestricted torpedo attacks by German subs regardless of a ships nationality - Americans were dieing in that war from 1915 on due to the sinking of surface ships (e.g.: Lusitania). The war was over a year and a half after the US entered it. Obviously, the US's 3M troops turned the tide, but Germany's aggressions was partially tied to belief that America would remain neutral and not enter the conflict. Isolationism has a cost and neutrality doesn't guarantee Americans won't be killed.
They sank our ships becuse we were supplying the enemy with arms.
@Battsman,
Your command of US history leaves a lot to actually be desired.
1) The Germans posted big notices in the newspapers in all major eastern seaboard warning Americans that any ship trading with the enemy (including carrying passengers) was subject to being attacked. The Lusitania was both trading with Britain and carrying war materials to Britain. The German consulate in New York was still in operation and German diplomats watch the contraband (in violation of then-existing US laws) being loaded.
2) Americans were largely in favor of the Germans before the outbreak of both WWI and WWII. They switched sides only after prolonged newspaper campaigns to change their minds. A prominent example was Charles Lindberg who was a strong advocate for Nazi Germany and was actually denied entry to the Army Air Corps because of his politics.
3) The Germans in WWI did not believe that Americans would remain neutral. In fact they were shocked that the US took so long. This is because the Kaiser actually mobilized the German Army to support plans to invade the U.S. Teddy Roosevelt actually, using only diplomacy and with one arm tied behind his back, single-handedly trashed the German Navy so badly that the invasion was called off. But other countries had mobilized in reaction toi Germany's mobilization. When the invasion was rebuffed it left the Kaiser with two problems: he had a mobilized military that he didn't know how to demobilize (it's much harder than you might think) and TR had publically embarrassed him in front of his senior officers. Germany had to attack someone, and France was "it."
And goodbye to you too, Svenolafson. We'll hate to see you leave America. Truly.
Iowa is over hyped, it represents 1% of the US population.
I guess that Iowa being the first temperature gauge of the nation means nothing huh.......
Yep, TIME, it's like the rectal thermometer for the GOP.
What?? Do you mean the entire Country is not a bunch of bible thumping hypocrite hicks???
Well we are where I am, I know that.
I think the expectations of Iowans they they should get the first crack every election cycle is extraordinarily hypocrytical. I also think it plays into the broken system of bipartisan politics - the amount of orchestration that having the same few states start off the race every year allows is rediculous. It also fails to allow many states to have much if any say in the outcome of the race because by the time they "vote" the inertia is insurmountable due to the sheep effect within the electorate. There is nothing fair about Iowa, NH, etc. dictating the choices available to a state like NC. The two states have almost nothing in common and yet by the time NC votes in May... or worse Utah in June... What is the point?
Frankly, I find it insulting to my intelligence. I know exactly what this is about - it isn't about electing a representative of the electorate - it is about allowing for a predictable strategy for both parties major candidates. The best funded, most connected, and favorably followed by the media. Yes it is easiest for both parties and the media to operate this way year in and year out, but don't call it a fair process representative of the electorate.
JK - it certainly was a rectal thermometer for the GOP... but Iowa is truly a great testing ground for the temperature of the nation. Iowa was a traditional republican state all the way up through 1988. I believe with the exception of FDR, Iowa always voted Republican. Iowa is now a swing state and can no longer be a checkbox in the GOP electoral college. Additionally, Iowa is not hurting like the rest of the nation. Unemployment is below 5%, farmland ($ per acre) is at its highest ever, corn and cattle prices are soaring, iowans also have one of the highest literacy and education rates in the world, and gay marriage is legal in this state.
Iowa may not be the richest, largest, most populous, and metropolitan state in the country, but it has a lot going for it. I was born and raised there for 25 years, and I would put my home state up against any other in this country.
Good points about Iowa Time - my personal frustration isn't with Iowa or even with its vaunted caucus process - my frustration is that nobody can say that having Iowa go first every year is fair to the rest of America. Iowa may be a great state, but it doesn't reflect all of America - it simply can't - thus giving Iowa the "first say" every year plays into the problem of an entrenched, unchanging political system.
Santorum also did best among those Iowa caucus goers who said that the most important issue was abortion
Religious identification was an important factor in Tuesday night’s outcome
Really Iowa? These things are what you think is important in this country right now? You deserve what you get if you vote like that.
YAY, Iowa pride!!! Way to be true to your school ItsAboutTime-3704531! No, actually Iowa caucuses is more of a graveyard for potential nominees. In the last 30 years of contested races, only 2 of the potential nominees have actually gone to win their party's vote. Iowa's really only good for the Bush family it would seem.
The Iowa caucus was a joke... None of the reporting was done professionally... Not one candidate said what their plan for the country was... All any of them said was "We need to defeat Obama."
Big deal, but what are you going to do? We already know that your all liars... You can't be a politician and not be a liar...
To go back to the same old routine of the republican tea party would be to put this country back in reverse... The do nothing republican congress needs to get off their a$$es and work with President Obama...
Again, The Iowa caucus was all hype and useless...
obama won in iowa bro... thats 2 in a row
Battsman Thank you for the post. I am personally biased obviously, but there is no other state in the country that could really be first in this type of activity. I just don't see any other really that has the same type of split.
Terry-CA I understand where you are coming from, I do. However, the Caucus was not a joke. It's still very clear the republican party has absolutely no direction, no leadership, and no plan. To me, they need to get back on track if they have any kind of hope of saving face.
Obama will win in 2012.
Doesn't the original constitution say that a Negro is 3/5 of a man?
And your point is...?
no it doesnt... the 3/5s compromise was later... did you even take a history class in school?
EddieisFiction--the constitution we are using as approved at the constitutional convention included the 3/5's compromise. It was necessary to get the constitution approved.
His point is made for why we can't vote for Ron Paul.
Thats not what your Wife said!
Jim
Correct, but it (Article 1, Section 2 and Paragraph 3) was rendered moot by the 13th Amendment
Well time to update it then...
This clown show in Iowa is irrelevant to the nation. Those right wing voters there present a minority of the US population and it was annoying to have this weeks and weeks over the news as no-news.
This entire Republican nomination process has been a feeding frenzy for Democrats already so far, who are pretty much sitting back quietly while watching the opposing party self-destruct. Also recording and cataloging every single juicy millisecond, down to the awkward pauses, the oopses and the 10 thousand dollar bets. Corporations are people, my friend. Of course they are. And tonight, from Rick Santorum: "If it's good enough for Ronald Reagan, it's good enough for me." Priceless! I'm seeing the ads tying Ronald Reagan's 11 tax hikes over eight years to that great line. This is like watching an opponent who has fallen overboard crying out for you to throw them an anchor.
Santorum was an embarrassment for PA, the wimp. Can't imagine the dweeb being President. Never will happen. Glad, thought, the so many Iowan GOPers voted for the pious idiot. Goes to show how fractured the Republican party has become.
Let the feeding frenzy continue! Next up: The Granite State for the Marbleheads.
Well I'm sure we're all so relieved to know he's got the firm backing of the wealthiest 1%.
Hey, Rick. Maybe you and the rest of the 99% crowd could attend the next venue and stone anyone giving an honest answer to income. After all, everyone who makes over 100k is the enemy...right? Maybe you should include anyone who has multiple college degrees, after all, those types must surely be part of the elete 1% who are keeping you down. Once done with that group, drag all those fools who read books into the light and hammer them as well.
Give it a rest and stop looking for an excuse to whine about life. Life is hard, get over it.
The future of America. Where the individual is bashed for his/her success. Funny how those individuals that are in love with and use evolution as a means of supporting their premise that there is no God or higher power backpedal to the point of burning their shoes off when it's looking at them straight in the eye. Oh the hypocrisy of the Left Wing Liberal/Progressive Wack Jobs. Stumbled while trying to get out of the primordial soup and only made it as far as getting their chin on the beach.
I'm sure they will back the poster boy for the 1%
Once a long time ago when I was waiting tables for a living, I met a woman who wanted to be appointed to be a judge. She told me something I'll never forget and the above exchange confirms it: She said, people will continue to support the Republicans no matter what they do because they imagine that this elite group, this ultra wealthy, ultra privileged group is something they can one day attain. She said, most of them will never get close but they will continue to support the conservatives abuse and subjugation because they are convinced they might be in that group someday.
These days you could probably insert "Democrat" and "left" anywhere you see the other. But the point is GET A CLUE. You are not part of the club. Having a million dollars does not make you part of the club. That might sound like a lot to some people but if you live in a coastal city it's nothing. If you have a major health incident it will be gone in a heartbeat.
Anyone whomust work is not part of the club. You will NEVER be a part of this club no matter how hard you work. It's not a matter of work, it's a matter of lie, cheat and steal, and use everyone you can find. You are fighting over half a cookie while the rich take the other 19.
Having lived in Iowa, I imagine many of those $100K earners were.........farmers! I hope they wiped the dirt off their boots upon entering the gymnasium to caucus. Now class warfare includes farmers too!
You people probably don't realize that an acre of Iowa farm land sells for $6000 on average and if a farmer owns 300 acres (about average) then his land alone is worth $1.8 million!!! Maybe all you class warfare communists want to seize his land next while you are at it. And with the impact on corn prices from all of Democrapolis and the President's green policies it is impossible to not make 6 figures on the Iowa farm. Maybe we should stop subsidizing ethanol (Oh wait - we just did!)
Rest assured - there is no maybe about the 99% attending the next critical elections. No need for stoning anyone, as your party is doing an excellent job of self-destructing all by yourselves. We'll simply vote, and that will be more than enough.
There should be a recount..I'm sure Mitt Romney beat Rick Santorum by only seven votes not eight.
This outcome of the Iowa caucuses is a landslide for Mitt Romney.
How is that, he ended up spending $49 per vote, compared to Santorums .87 per vote, if that's his idea of fiscal responsibility??? God help us put Obama back into office!!!!!!!
Hey RR:
You are NOT being very NICE!!! :P But you're funny as hell!! LMAO
Obama 2012!
Tom,
Why do you hate America so much?
Anybody but Obama in 2012.
Hey rational:
Guess you havent heard: the last 3 GOP presidents signed TWENTY deficit riddled budgets that added over $11T to the debt AND saddled Obama with a $1.3T deficit even BEFORE he was sworn in! THAT is playing a major part in what you call "Obama's deficits".
http://www.treasurydirect.gov/govt/reports/pd/histdebt/histdebt_histo4.htm
http://www.treasurydirect.gov/govt/reports/pd/histdebt/histdebt_histo5.htm
Not only THAT, the GOP had a PLAN to do just that, run up the debt so high that it would create a debt crisis. Then they could privatize SS and Medicare. They called the plan "starve the beast"!! So, this debt crisis was del;iberately created by the GOP following that , adopted under Raygun and presented by Grover Norquist! ( YUP him again!)

They endangered national security so they could provatize SS and Medicare and get all that money into the hands of the people who crashed the economy!!

Now, I've provided proof of what I say. If you want to try to refute it, please use non-political sources too! Remember, the GOP ADMITS to the program called "starve the beast"!!
Hell, the GOP even held the suffering unemployed HOSTAGE so they could protect the bush tax cuts for the rich and corporate interests, saying they would NOT extend the unemployment benefits UNLESS Obama agreed to extend the tax cuts!
Now, why do YOU hate America????? You wanna put these GOP thieves back in charge???
We don't hate America. We don't hate Americans. But we find it easy to hate people who claim to be the only ones whose opinions matter, while simultaneously trying hard to make those opinions into laws.
Vote for Barack Obama 2012
Vote for Democrats into controlling the House of Representatives into a filibuster-proof majority in 2012
Vote for Democrats to retain and expand to a filibuster-proof majority in 2012
Then you'll see this country turn around.
We did that already and you guys only served to make things worse.
Unemployment - Community organizers and Socialists have proven they know nothing of economics.
Economy - sucks. Let's vilify success shall we - the core of what makes America great. Let's subsidize things like green energy that would otherwise never pay for itself economically - recipe for disaster. Let's make CFC bulbs over Incandescent to save energy and keep Mercury from the environment (coal) only to increase the mercury in the environment from the CFC bulbs. Let's thow money at solar companies who are failing left and right.
Let's follow the advice of academicians and Jeff Corzine. Let's sow the seeds of doubt in the economy and wonder why it won't recover. Let's print trillions and wonder why prices rise.
Let's be transparent - sure! Fast and Furious, Solyndra, Corzine, Healthcare reform (SCOTUS to rule), stimulus, union pandering, etc...
Rick and Tom, you two live in a world I am not familiar with, the one where laziness triumphs over hard work, where risk aversion is prized over risk taking, where an apology makes it all right even though it doesn't, where Americans are pitted against Americans.
Tom - do you think we can just keep printing money and borrowing from China? Look at the PIGS of Europe.
Enjoy your pathetic jealousy.
Here's a prediction for you...
House - the Dems will pick up a few seats but not threaten majority.
Senate - Reps will take majority.
White House - Either lame duck or Republican.
For the good of America, elect no lame ducks. We cannot afford a 4 year depression.
Well, it looks like its going to be between a moderate-conserative flipflopper and a conservative religious guy who will bring religion back to our schools! I thought there was suppost to be separation between religion and state. Don't see that the others matter, Michelle is over, Newt made a mistake, a lot of them accoding to the ads, Rick well oops! And Paul is isolating himself just like an isolationist. Maybe there is still time for Sarah.
The headline will say that Romney won Iowa. Anybody truly paying attention knows that Santorum won where it counted. He equaled Romney in delegates and has fresh momentum going forward. Romney is in trouble. He'll win NH but by less than he should and he'll fail in SC and Fla likely coming in 3rd and 2nd respectively.
The best thing is that the GOP will be so discouraged about Romney that it will cause problems downballot. He'll win the nomination but take his party down with him when he loses to Obama. The Paulies are right. Paul is actually the only one who can truly give Obama a run but he'll never get the nomination.
GOP dysfunction on display. Go Dems!!!!
You are living in a different country than I am if you think Ron Paul stands a chance. I say go ahead and nominate him. I can't wait to see Paul and Obama standing at the podium for that first debate. Just the visual makes me laugh.
Did you know we've never had a short president in our history? The men who have been president of this country have always been above average height for their time.
And hey, the fact that he's 75 years old should be no issue, right? I mean he can't possibly be out of touch with what's going on for the rest of us...
How about a Romney and Santorum team, that would certainly make a strong pairing with conservativeness and religion. America needs a "change" in leadership to turn us around from the wrong direction. I know that Romney was declared the winner in Iowa, but it's more like a tie ... there were two winners and the GOP should take a good look at the Iowa results. Hope and change we can truly believe in .... Romney and Santorum. What do you think ?
I think you're crazy to even suggest such a thing. The change needed is NOT back in the direction of where we were under Bush/Cheney prior to the economic crash, unless of course you would like a repeat performance.
TD,
So, you like these last 3 years, do you?
Great thought Terrie. Romney can pander to the wealthiest, greediest people in our nation and Santorum can pander to the evangelicals. What a team. They'll have the election locked up along with our working & poor classes of non-evangelical, non-heterosexual citizens
I like it when people say this. They seem to forget 3 years ago we were standing on the edge of abyss and the edge was crumbling.
So today we are standing a couple of feet back and it's still crumbling.
That's much better than being at the bottom staring up wondering what happened.
Some things take time. Not everything runs like your browser or the clicker for your tee vee.
The gains made over the past 3 years are evident, but not enough. We fell a long way and have a long way to go. I place 100% of the blame on our lack of progress on the GOP and their obstructionist, selfish, ideological, pathological behavior. I sure as hell won't be willing to give them any more power.
Are we seriously considering giving the republican nomination to a member of the cult of mormon? Wow. ok.
Iowa ? No big deal-it represents the most extreme of an extreme Republican Party-and even then Romney won (albeit barely). If the GOP chooses anyone other than Romney they will be rejected even more decidedly by the American people in 2012...God help us if anyone of these border- line political psychopaths gets elected as POTUS. As an Independent from Texas I am really beginning to worry about our country's ability to move ahead in a new world. ! It will be Obama over Romney in 2012 or else be prepared to become a third-world nation with no middle-class and being ruled by a Wall St/Corporate combination of wealthy elitists ( THE 5 PERCENTERS)
I am waiting for this "calvacade of clowns" to end; a nominee selected, and the real battle begins for the selection of President. Will we finally, as a nation, rid ourselves of these multi-miliionaire candidates who pretend to know what is best for the average working-poor American, or stay on course for a renewing of democratic ideals our country was founded on..??This Independent has to vote for Obama (for the very first time)-the GOP has veered off course , has become radically right-wing, and completely forgotten the average struggling middle-class and working poor.
What the entrance poll told us about Iowa's outcome ?
Perhaps there's no difference between right-wing christian fanaticism and cult-of-mormon ?
I wonder if we will hear from the Ron Paul supporters today, and wannabe political experts, who predicted that he was going to win Iowa......an illegal Mexican immigrant will win the Presidency before Paul does
I guess the emergency rooms will be full of Paul supporters choking on all the crow they had to eat
Watching the results on MSNBC, it is disgusting to hear Rachel Maddow make snide comments about Michelle Bachmann. Just report b&%$h and leave your opinions to yourself. That's when I left and went to CNN and Fox. They also had Al Sharpton on a panel. MSNBC is sinking fast.
I nominate this little rant as the joke-of-the-day ...
:snicker:
Her job is to make snide comments. That's what they pay her to do. note: Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Beck?
And really, come on. Bachman is like Palin. There is just so much to make fun of...
The republican party is pretty much shattered. There are too many different flavours of extremist. The evangelical right pretty much wants us all to act right according to their dictates. The business right is concerned with their interest and economic policies (requiring large government) and finally the small government crowed who is worried about sharing their hard earned money with urban dwellers. These ideologies often overlap but often can conflict. The strict constitutionalists insist on ignoring all amendments. The only thing that can unite these interest is Obama who as it turns out fits within the moderate republican class. The democratic party has no representative in the race.
Iowa does not deserve the media attention and hype but there is no news other than popular personalities. I read the news and books. The boob tube is for automotons. Opps, almost all.
Indulge me, when I was in the Navy, I reported to a new command, it was the worst I have ever seen. Safety issues and violations were flagrant, rules diregarded, admin was a joke as was training. We were a maintenance division for all the electronics aboard ship. Anyway, there is more but you get the piccture, my point is, it took weeks and months before the issues were at least partly resolved. It took an entire year before my division was where I thought it should be! This was only a workplace, can't you people imagine for one second how screwed up the country was under bush and then handed over to President Obama. It will take time and all you want to do is blame. President Obama has many successes but I don't see people giving him credit. President Obama has been willing to compromise on a number of issues but like the speaker of the house said, their priority is making President Obama a one term president. Instead of working together towards common ground, it seems like they go out of their way to oppose. Now even within the republican party there is division, if there is so much division within the party how can we expect a republican to lead this country. Maybe next time but I say President Obama is still better then any of the repubblican nominees at this time!
since when is a second term necessary to get anything done as a president. In my book, you've got 4 years to get everything done, and that earns you a 2nd term, otherwise, thanks for your work... NEXT
Are all the Christians Republicans ? Are all the poor African Americans ? Was the recession caused by the banks being regulated or unregulated ? Being against homosexuals & lesbians does not make you a Christian unregenerated individuals are against that act. Christianity is based on making Jesus Christ your Lord and savior, not just on being against unseemly acts. If you read in Leviticus the Lord also talked about having relations with your neighbors wife, your aunt, your uncle, your sister, etc. in the same text. Jesus stated that you will have the poor with you always, poor is not a race but a state in life, there are poor whites, Asians ,Latinos, African Americans, Jews, Italians, polish Americans, etc. As far as the banks go watch these two movies, Inside Job & Capitalism a Love story and you will get insight on what occurred with the banking system, this was 30-40 years in the making the dam just broke loose in 2007, lets us be more informed than we are and leave the Judgement to God..., for with the same measure that you judge you shall also be judged.
Romney claims to care about the middle class. I found it interesting that the rich went for Romney. He must really be speaking their language regarding corparation, taking over businesses, and shipping jobs over seas. He has no clue how to relate to the middle class. This is not the time to return to George Bush. If he has his way we would invading Iran by the summer of 2013.
I have one other problem. If prayer is put back in schools, what kind of prayers will they be? Christian, Muslem, Wiccan, Druid? Will every school be required to build a mineret?
When I was a child in a small town in Georgia we said the pledge of alligence and had a prayer (Christian). Because we were a homogenous community there were no objections. Someone who did object would be shuned even though we were methodist and baptist.
This may still be possible in parts of the country but for most of us, well, the home rooms would be very interesting.
Prayer was never taken out of schools because our founding father's specifically wrote it out of the constitution. Therefore, by design of our forefathers, it was never in public schools the way Christians want so badly for it to be. Never in 236 years.
If you want so badly to go back, then I suggest perhaps going back to the country your ancestors fled in the first place.
And a correction to what Michele Bachmann implied last night in her concession speech: the Pilgrims did not come to America to spread the word of God, they fled religious persecution in England. Life had become so unbearable for them, they were left no other option but to leave. It's one reason why America was set up - to allow for those freedoms that were not available to them in the countries they fled. A freedom of religious choice, which guaranteed your ability to pursue and practice it no matter what that belief was. That you've convinced yourselves that America was designed to be a template for worldwide Christian expansion is delusional.
But no matter how hard you folks on the right continue to try and re-write history, it simply will not work. There are too many of us who simply will not allow it to happen.
Christians just need to learn the art of prayer at HOME, which most of them don't do.
You have to admire this little debacle ... they're like tribes or gangs trying to find symmetry in their savage ideologogues ... then you have Noot throwing a wrench in the wheel reminding us all that no one exists in the world except Reagan neocons ... because Bush never existed ...

I'm not really sure why the GOP is spending the time and resources going thru a Presidential nominating process when all they have to do is ask their God, Rush Oxycontin Limpballs, who they should vote for......it sure would be a whole lot easier.....but not as amusing
